The deceased family has two pet dogs in the home. Both of these animals have never been vaccinated against anti-rabies and are free to interact with wild dogs. However, for now both dogs are alive and well. The deceased never complains of biting dogs or other animals.

With the confirmation of this case, rabies has been confirmed among people in Sarawak since the declaration of rabies from July 1, 2017 to November 6, 2019, 22 cases including 21 deaths. Six (6) of these cases occur in 2019.
