The number of dengue fever cases in the Americas has surpassed 2 million, higher than the annual totals reported during the most recent two years .

Nicaragua is one of the countries reporting the most cases, seeing 55,289 cases year to date, following only Brazil and Colombia.

Nicaragua has the highest incidence rate in the Americas with 736 cases per 100,000 population.

The country is reporting only one serotype, DEN-2 and has the lowest case fatality rate at .01 percent (eight fatalities).

On 31 July 2019, the Ministry of Health declared an Epidemiological Alert to control the mosquito that transmits  not only dengue, but also chikungunya and Zika.
