The Peru Ministry of Health reports 6833 cumulative leptospirosis cases through May 27 this year. This is a 188% increase compared the the same period in 2022 (2372). 74.8% are considered probable cases.

To date, 343 districts of 21 departments and the Constitutional Province of Callao, reported at least one case of leptospirosis.

Loreto department has reported the most cases (3810), followed by Tumbes (470), Ica (458), Madre de Dios (399) and Piura (363).

So far, five deaths have been reported in Libertad (02), San Martín (01) and Loreto (02).

Leptospirosis affects every age group. 60.2% of cases are concentrated in the youth and adult population.
The highest incidence rates are seen in groups of teenagers and young people.
