Quezon City dengue and leptospirosis
The Quezon City Epidemiology & Disease Surveillance Unit (QCESU) reported 1,160 cases of dengue from January 1 to June 24, 2023, with Barangay Tatalon recording the highest number of cases in QC. QCESU also reported one death due to dengue in Barangay Krus na Ligas.
Mayor Joy Belmonte urged QCitizens to get tested for dengue should symptoms arise, as well as practice the 4S’s: Secure Self-Protection Measures such as wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and using mosquito repellant; Support fogging or spraying in identified hotspots, and; Seek early consultation.
In addition, the city tallied a total of 32 leptospirosis cases from January 1 to June 24, 2023. Four residents died from Barangays Payatas, Old Balara, Pasong Tamo, and Talipapa, respectively.
The QCHD reminded QCitizens to seek consultation in the nearest hospital or health center if they are experiencing leptospirosis symptoms, such as high fever, red eyes, abdominal pain, headache, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and yellowed skin or eyes.
Residents are also reminded to avoid wading or swimming in potentially contaminated water, wear protective clothing, stay away from dead or sick animals, and cover skin lesions with waterproof dressing.
Palawan dengue
Health officials in Palawan province on sounded the alarm over a surge in dengue cases numbering 3,274 from January to June in various municipalities.
Based on the data released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Taytay municipality reported the highest number of dengue cases, totaling 1,079.
PHO chief, Dr. Faye Erika Labrador called the spike “alarming” saying, “For this year, from January, we really noticed an increase in cases of dengue and other illnesses compared to last year.”

Iloilo leptospirosis
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has warned the public on the increasing cases of leptospirosis that have reached 107 including two deaths as of June 24 this year, according to the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU).
In the same period last year, the province has only 27 cases.
The towns with the most number of cases are Cabatuan, Barotac Nuevo, Pototan, Anilao, Dingle, Oton, Santa Barbara, Dumangas, San Enrique and Mina, said Health Officer Dr. Rodney Labis.
The two deaths were recorded in the municipalities of Badiangan and Carles.
